Prayers for a Princess

Submitted by Kristine Stremel

Redemptorist Fr. Joe Maier was honored to join a Buddhist monk and an Islamic imam to mark the 50 days death anniversary of HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendira Debyavati of Thailand. Princess Bajrakitiyabha, the eldest daughter of King Maha Vajiralongkorn and the Thai royal family’s most visibly accomplished member, died on June 11 at the age of 47. She collapsed in December of 2022 due to a severe heart problem that was attributed to a mycoplasma infection, and had been in a coma for more than three years.

“The abbot of the temple extended the invitation to me as the Catholic priest representing our chapel of the Holy Spirit here at Mercy Centre and the imam from the nearby mosque to join in prayers and blessings,” Fr. Joe explained. “We of the three religions gathered at the temple to pray for blessings and peace.”
