Retreat Center Chapel Renovation Celebrated
by Anthony Nguyen, C.Ss.R.
After receiving the necessary permission from the Provincial government, Fr. Ted Lawson, Director of the Redemptorist Retreat Center in Oconomowoc, and his dedicated retreat staff, embarked on an ambitious renovation of the retreat center’s chapel. This undertaking required more than two years of extensive fundraising effort, tireless work, and physical labor. Ultimately, the renovation was completed successfully, culminating in a joyful celebration during the Saturday evening Mass held just last weekend.
Throughout the renovation journey, Fr. Lawson demonstrated exceptional leadership and guidance, serving as a beacon of support for everyone, including the Provincial Council members. His involvement was vital as we navigated each phase of this significant endeavor from the initial fundraising campaigns to the complex details of construction and the meticulous financial management required to bring the project to fruition. The pathway to achieving this important milestone demanded an immense investment of effort, time, and collaboration from all parties involved, and it is only appropriate that we take a moment to acknowledge this collective achievement.
The OPC extends our heartfelt congratulations and deep appreciation to Fr. Ted, his talented staff, and the entire Redemptorist community in Oconomowoc. Their unwavering commitment, hard work, and resilience have been instrumental in bringing this vision to life. This renovation stands as a testament to their dedication as well as their perseverance.
During the Gospel reading in last Saturday’s liturgy, the focus was on the Samaritan leper who returned to express his gratitude to his healer, Jesus. Fr. Ted skillfully referenced this passage to convey his deepest thanks to all the benefactors, supporters, and friends whose contributions were vital to the renovation’s success.
We are profoundly grateful to all the benefactors who have generously supported this project. Your financial contributions, coupled with the time and talents you so graciously shared, have made an indelible difference in the completion of our chapel. Without your kindness and generosity, the project would not have progressed or achieved its successful conclusion as swiftly as it has. We pray that God may bless each of you who played a role in transforming this space into a serene sanctuary. This chapel will be a place where individuals can encounter God in earnest prayer and participate in meaningful liturgical celebrations. Your efforts have created an inviting atmosphere that will undoubtedly foster spiritual growth and a strong sense of community among all who enter.
The celebration was meticulously planned, creating a deeply spiritual atmosphere that resonated throughout the chapel. The choir of St. Anthony on the Lake Parish performed a breathtaking four-part harmonized song, their voices soaring and echoing against the chapel’s walls. The beauty of their prayerful melodies filled the hearts of everyone present, offering a profound sense of joy, peace, and holiness, and elevating the entire congregation into a shared moment of worship and reflection.
Following the Mass, guests were invited to a delightful reception featuring a wonderful, elegant meal. A heartfelt congratulations once again to Fr. Ted, whose leadership and dedication were pivotal in organizing this event, and to the retreat staff, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to attend to every detail. The local Redemptorist community also deserve recognition for their unwavering support and commitment to fostering a nurturing environment for spiritual growth.
Finally, a special thank you to all the benefactors whose remarkable contributions have made this retreat chapel so welcoming and beautiful. Your generosity has created a sacred space that truly embodies the essence of a House of God, inviting all who enter to connect with their faith. May God bless each of us for our dedication and love, as we continue to make this retreat chapel a cherished haven for those seeking solace and connection with the Divine.
