An Alternative Vision for Friday Nights
Church attendance among younger millennials is down across the entire American religious landscape. The Redemptorists in Kansas City are doing something about it.

The Archdiocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph Young Adult Ministry has chosen Our Lady of Perpetual Help Redemptorist Church to host its Eucharistic Adoration ministry. It’s called KC Underground because it is an alternative encounter with Christ – to be strengthened by Him rather than pursuing secular pursuits on a Friday night. We gather in His presence as His radiant children of the night. When most of the world is out and about, we are separating ourselves from the world to be conformed to God. More than 300 young adults from all over Kansas City and our own parish Young Adult Group participate in this unique adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
The two-hour evening event includes: candlelit adoration, chanted vespers, prayer teams to assist those in need of spiritual support, confession, praise and worship. Afterwards, we enjoy fellowship in a variety of ways. The last fellowship was a “hoe down country western dance theme” at the Irish Center, just down the street from the church. It’s inspiring to see our parking lots jammed with cars and the church full of young adults expressing their faith and belief in Jesus and in his real presence.
